December Newsletter

Dear Members,
This is the last full newsletter for 2022 – but do look out for a couple of other announcements we will be making soon.
The end of the year is always a time to reflect. 2022 has been a year of recovery for equality dancing in the UK and around the world. After a slow start with low numbers at events and competitions, it’s great to see that more people are returning or joining in for the first time.

November has been quite busy with social dance events, including Sapphires, the Cactus Club, and the Pink Dancers Winter Ball. We know there is photographic evidence out there of several of our members in superhero costumes at the Pink Dancers Winter Ball. We love the pictures! If you haven’t seen them, we recommend you trawl the usual Facebook groups.

We did not let rail replacement bus services get in the way of travelling to Burgess Hill for the UK Equality Open. It was a fantastic event with lots of new couples taking to the floor. Clearly, we were not the only ones who wouldn’t miss this highlight of the UK equality dance calendar. There were open and equality competitions in Latin and Ballroom, plus Salsa, Argentine Tango, and showdance for groups and couples. The UKEDC sponsored the Salsa and Argentine Tango trophies.

2023 looks to be a busy year for competitors. Have a look at the competition listings below for details. Apart from many of the regular equality dance competitions returning across Europe, there are also a number of UK mainstream events that are adding equality categories or are actively inviting equality couples to join the open competitions.

Your committee has also been reflecting on the last year and thinking about the future. We took some time to explore the future direction of equality dancing and how the UKEDC can best support our great equality dance community. We will be in touch soon to get your thoughts and ideas!

Our Annual General Meeting will be in March 2023 and we will share the date with you in the next couple of weeks.

I wish you all an enjoyable festive season and a very happy and healthy 2023!

All the very best from your UKEDC Committee,
ANSELL
